Intern Program

Mountain Collegium Early Music and Folk Music Workshop is invested in serving the amateur early music community.  With a diverse roster of faculty who are considered some of the most knowledgeable teachers and leaders in their field, Mountain Collegium can also offer guidance in developing skills for group teaching and coaching.  Thanks to an anonymous donor, we will offer a limited number of intern positions to developing teachers who are working as new professionals in their area of training or who are pre-professional and pursuing the training required to teach and lead in the early music community.  Positions are open for most Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque string and wind instrumentalists.

Applicants should have a strong interest in early music, in perpetuating and strengthening the culture of workshop learning among amateur musicians, and in working with students of all playing levels.  A high level of performing skills on at least one early instrument is expected, while proficiency on a secondary instrument is a plus.

Applicants who are chosen for an intern position will receive free tuition, room, and board for Mountain Collegium Early Music and Folk Music Workshop.  We will provide $100 toward travel expenses, and the remainder will be the responsibility of the applicant.

A daily class schedule, which will be determined prior to the workshop in conjunction with the Intern Coordinator, will include a class with a faculty mentor; a technique class for the applicant’s primary instrument; an early music repertoire class; and a class on a secondary instrument.  In addition, each intern may lead a large group evening playing session or present a lecture. Interns may also have an opportunity to perform on the faculty recital. By working closely with the Intern Coordinator and mentor teachers prior to the workshop, the intern will gain skills in planning a workshop teaching experience. A daily check-in with the Coordinator will give the intern frequent opportunities to reflect on their experiences and plan for improvement.

Applicants should complete and submit the application below no later than May 1, 2026.  A minimum of two references is required, but up to three may be submitted.  Please have them submit reference letters to intern@mountaincollegium.org before the application deadline.

INTERN APPLICANTS DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE WORKSHOP REGISTRATION OR COURE SELECTION FORM AT THIS TIME.
